Our History

Historical Records

This page is dedicated to Sam Baum (of blessed memory), recorder of Jackson’s Jewish history. His handwritten records (transcribed by Pam Dennis) provide biographical information on members of our congregation who lived before our time. (Click here for a transcription of the Sam Baum Papers.) We continue Sam’s work by adding to these records and making them available on our website. This is a work in progresss…please check back often to see what has been added. The list below consists of biographical information, historical photos, and congregational history. Click on each name or item to open the PDF.

Also, please click here to view additional historical records (photos, newspaper clippings, etc.).

BIOGRAPHIES (alphabetical by last name)

~ As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as we remember them. (from New Prayers for the High Holy Days by Rabbis Sylvan Kamens and Jack Riemer, 1970)
